Pre and post care
It is very important that you read through this information thoroughly. If you’re unsure of anything, please contact us at info@skintip.co.uk
- Check your calendar as after some of our treatments it’s likely you’ll be flushed for a day or two.
- Wear something comfortable. You will be asked to remove your top half before the treatment starts.
- Remove all Jewellery before your facial.
- Remove all makeup (if possible) before you come in for your treatment.
- Stop all facial acids AHA/BHA’s (glycolic, salicylic, lactic etc) for a week before your treatment
- Stop Vitamin A (retinol, retinal, tretinoin etc) for a week before your treatment
- Please make us aware of any medications that you may be on – We will need to make sure that the treatment can still go ahead safely.
- We cannot treat sunburnt/windburned skin.
- We cannot treat you if you have an active cold sore.
- We cannot treat you if you have cuts, bruises or scabs present on the area being treated.
- You cannot have any hair removal treatments for a 2 weeks minimum post treatment (waxing, laser hair removal, electrolysis, depilatory creams etc).
- If you are over 15 minutes late to your appointment, it is unlikely that we will be able to treat you.
- If any of these rules aren’t abided by and we can’t proceed with the treatment on the day, you will still be charged the full amount. It is your responsibility to read the Pre and Post information care provided.

- You may experience a little erythema (redness) with certain treatments, this is completely normal.
- Don’t apply makeup until the skin has settled (24hrs). Please ensure your makeup brushes & sponges have been cleaned.
- SPF 30 minimum is not negotiable.
- Cleanse your skin before you go to sleep you will have SPF on from your treatment
- Do not touch or pick your skin.
- Do not wash your hair the night of treatment.
- Don’t restart any acids/retinoids for a week post treatment (unless advised otherwise).
- Avoid heat treatments, steam & hot water for the next 24hrs, your skin will be more prone to irritation directly after treatment.
- Avoid Chlorine for 2 weeks.
- No waxing or face treatments for 2 weeks.
Hydrafacial
Pre and post care
- 72 h prior to your treatment, refrain from excessive unprotected exposure to the sun
- 48 h before your treatment, do not use any over-the-counter acne medications, such as salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Refrain from waxing and using depilatories. You should also refrain from any type of exfoliating treatments, like those containing active enzymes or glycolic acids. Finally, do not use any topical product containing tretinoin, such as Retin-A, for at least 48 hours before your treatment session.
- I strongly recommend that men do not shave on the day of treatment. However, if you feel you must shave, make sure you do not shave within three to four hours of your appointment.
- Do not wash your face for about 6 hours after your treatment. You should also avoid engaging in intense exercise that will cause you to sweat. Keeping your face dry during this time will protect your skin and allow you to receive optimal results.
- Avoid your face from exposure to sunlight, and don’t use any kind of tanning beds for at least 72 Avoid intense heat for at least 24 hours.
- Don’t apply makeup for at least one day after treatment.
- Do not wax or use depilatories for at least 48 hours after the treatment.
- Don’t use any medium or deep chemical peels or laser treatments for at least two weeks after your facial treatment.
- Don’t use any exfoliating treatments, like glycolic acid or enzymes, for at least 48 hours after the treatment.
Chemical Peels
Pre and post care
- Consult with your clinician if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking medication for your skin.
- Do not expose your skin to the sun for at least 2 weeks before treatment.
- Do not use tanning beds for at least 2 weeks before treatment.
- Do not undergo any other facial treatment for 2 weeks prior to a chemical peel treatment. This includes dermaplaning, microneedling, laser, facial fillers and facial waxing/threading.
- It is recommended that you temporarily discontinue the use of Retin-A, Renova, Differin, EpiDuo for a week before treatment. Products that contain high percentages of AHA and BHA (Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid) and all retinoids that are not part of PCA SKIN®s daily care range should be avoided for approximately 5 days before treatment.
- Please consult with your clinician before discontinuing prescription medications. Before after four days (during the peeling process)
For up to 14 days following your treatment your skin may feel tight, sensitive, dry and you may experience mild flaking skin. This is normal. To avoid the risk of complications, please follow the below advice.
- Do not wash your face for at least 10 hours post treatment.
- Avoid direct sunlight and do not use a tanning bed for at least 2 weeks post treatment.
- Keep the skin cool – avoid heat, excessive exercise and swimming/ steam room/sauna for up to 14 days post treatment.
- Use the post procedure products supplied by your clinician only.
- Do not use facial oils, aqueous/ emollient creams and avoid high percentage AHA and BHA products for up to 14 days post treatment.
- Do not undergo any facial treatments for at least 2 weeks post treatment.
- This includes dermaplaning, microneedling, laser, facial fillers and facial waxing/threading.
- Do not pick or pull peeling skin.
- Protect your skin with a broad spectrum SPF!
Laser Hair Removal
Pre and Post-treatment Advice
4 weeks prior to treatment:
- No waxing, plucking or threading for at least 4 weeks and/or between laser treatments
2 weeks prior to treatment:
- Do not expose the skin to UV or self tan for at least 2 weeks before or in between laser treatments
1 week prior to treatment:
- Avoid intense exfoliation, microdermabrasion or peels
24-48 hours prior to treatment:
- Do not use bleaching creams or perfumed products
Please Also:
- Avoid swimming in strong chlorinated water immediately before or after treatment
- Avoid wearing tight clothes when attending treatment sessions
- Hydrate the body by drinking plenty of water
- Protect the skin from sun exposure with suitable clothing and use sun block SPF 30+ before first treatment and between subsequent treatment
For up to 24 hours:
- The skin may be red and warm after treatment, this redness is called Erythema, this is perfectly normal and will naturally subside. If you wish, you can apply a cold compress to help calm the redness. However, it is advisable to avoid using ice as this may irritate the skin. You can also use soothing preparations such as aloe vera. It will help to soothe the skin and reduce redness after hair removal.
- Avoid using make up on the treated area, thus allowing the skin to cool naturally and more comfortably.
For 48 Hours:
- Avoid all heat treatments including hot baths, saunas, steam baths and showers.
- No swimming in strongly chlorinated water.
- Do not use bleaching creams.
- Avoid perfumed products e.g., soaps, creams or perfumes.
- Leave any temporary skin responses such as redness to subside naturally.
- Do not touch, pick, scratch or otherwise irritate the area.
- No shaving to avoid any skin reaction.
For 1 week:
- Do not exfoliate the treated area or use peels.
- You can exfoliate the area up to 3 times / week until your next appointment.
For 2 weeks:
- No UV exposure.
- No self tan.
- Avoid waxing, plucking, threading or depilation creams.
- Avoid prolonged outdoor activity that may expose the skin to a lot of wind or sun.
For 3 weeks:
- Use sun protection SPF +30.
- Limit sun exposure and do not use tanning beds for at least 3 weeks.
